Every homecoming, the main celebrating batch surprises UPSE with a Batch Gift. Rooms were renovated and upgraded by different batches, Professorial Chairs were established, Scholarship Funds were beefed up – all as a way of the different batches to ‘give back ‘ to UPSE.
Batch 1986, the Rebel Yellow batch, went a step further. These alumni of the Yellow Ribbon year surprised UPSE during the Grand Alumni Homecoming, with a Five Million Peso seed money to set up an Endowment Fund for the developmental projects of our dear UPSE.
Hardworking batch representative Rachel Kapunan Abis said that their efforts to raise the Fund came from Dean Arsenio M. Balisacan’s presentation of UPSE’s medium term goal: to “recapture” and maintain its position as the leading institution in economics education and research in Southeast Asia. Ms. Abis said that they were also inspired by Prof. Solita Monsod’s call for alumni to give back to the School that nurtured their young dreams and ambitions.
Around twenty five batch ’86 alumni went onstage to hand over the batch gift to Dean Arsi who received the gift on behalf of UPSE.
The Endowment Fund will be managed by professional fund managers who belong to their class. The batch said that it will pursue efforts to increase the Fund in the coming years.
From UPSE, and UPSEAA – Thank You, Rebel Yellow!
