The , a semi-governmental research institution based in Chiba, Japan, established informal ties with the University of the Philippines School of Economics (UPSE) in the late 1960s. Since then, both institutions have become partners in various research endeavors, with IDE inviting several UPSE faculty members as visiting research fellows to Japan and sending its staff to UPSE as visiting research associates. Through its ASEAN Economic Development program (ASEDP), IDE has initiated collaborative projects primarily intended for the study of economic development and related issues in some ASEAN-member countries, including the Philippines. A series of IDE publications, including those focusing on particular aspects of the Philippine economy and society, have been produced out these projects.
Copies of UPSE-IDE monograph series are available for photocopying at the UPSE Library.
