Types of Collection

The General Book Collection

The General book collection is mainly concerned with the subject area “Social Science” with specific emphasis on economics. The open-shelf collection is located on the second floor (north side). Lending and receiving of materials are done at the Circulation Desk.

The General Reference Collection

General reference books which include atlases, dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, gazetteers, handbooks, indexes, etc. are located at the first four rows of bookstacks. The collection is to be used in the reading room only.

The Reserve Book Collection

The collection consists of textbooks and supplementary reading materials recommended by the faculty as required readings for the economics courses. The books are on closed shelves and may be borrowed for a two-hour use within the second floor reading area. With proper reservation they are allowed for overnight use.

Filipiniana Collection

The Filipiniana section has an updated collection of special studies and reports from both the government and private sectors. Among the notable documents in the collection are government documents such as: national and regional development plans, socioeconomic profiles of the various regions of the country, feasibility and industry studies, annual reports, budget reports, censuses, and statistical yearbooks; published works; special studies and reports on the Philippines by international and intergovernmental organizations and research agencies; research studies by the private sectors; theses and dissertations; and publications of colleges and universities.

The Serial Collection

The Library subscribes to a number of technical journals and economics periodicals, both foreign and local. At present, the library has a total of 574 serial titles in 7,635 bound volumes.

The Non-Print Collection

Consists of 768 CDs which are mostly statistical references, 39 video recordings, 717 reels of microfilm of development plans of Southeast Asian countries, 241 microfiches of back issues of technical journals, 103 slides and 36 maps of different countries.

Online resources

The Library is one of the online resources centers of electronic books and journals from World Bank (Open Knowledge Repository), International Monetary Fund (IMF eLibrary) and Asian Development Bank.

The Library  still receives some print publications from local and foreign institutions and agencies where the Library  has an active exchange program.  Their online resources are useful to economics students and other researchers and the Library recommends them to visit their sites. The growing collections of pamphlets, monograph series (occasional, discussion, research and working papers) as well as reprints are received from these exchange partners.

Electronic books

Electronic books or e-books are books in digital form. The Library has a modest collection of purchase and gift e-books. Institutional exchange partners, such as: World Bank through their Open Knowledge Repository (https://openknowledge.worldbank.org/) , International Monetary Bank through their IMF eLibrary (http://www.elibrary.imf.org/)  and Asian Development Bank ( http://www.adb.org/publications) are sources of  current ebooks.

These can be read inside the library or downloaded and saved to a local disk to be read anywhere and anytime.

Cambridge Books Online (http ://ebooks.cambridge.org/subject_landing)  offers predefined or bespoke collections of content within a richly functional, fully searchable online environment. Majority of the collections pertains to economics topics. Below are the available titles specifically chosen for economics majors:
